We've never been professionally filmed/ photographed before. Will we need to look at the camera a lot?

When creating portraits and shooting film for a storytelling session I prefer to take an unobtrusive, documentary approach when telling the story of your day. I capture moments naturally as they unfold, so there is no need to direct your words or expressions towards the camera at all. You can simply relax and be yourselves, and leave everything to me. You can simply enjoy every moment, be present with your family, and let me do what I do best... capture your everyday!

How long will our storytelling photos + film session last?

A documentary film session will last approximately up to 4 hours. We start early, usually at 8am, to make the most of the best light and also to ensure that the children are wide-awake first thing in the morning. I usually stay until around lunchtime. It will give you a plenty of time to do your normal routine while I'm there with you.

When do I get to see my images after our session?

Your images will be ready to view two to three weeks after your session date. I will carefully go through all the photographs taken in your session and select the very best ones for you to view. I will then spend several hours working on them to ensure you can enjoy the highest quality. Your images will be available to you in both color and black and white finishes.

What if my child is ill?

If you or your child is ill, then I'd ask you to let me know as soon as possible and we can postpone your session. We wouldn't dream of forcing a sick child to have a photo shoot, as this would be miserable for everyone involved. I want you and your child to feel your best so I can get a beautiful set of images for you.

Where my photo shoot takes place?

All my sessions take place on location - I travel to you and we take pictures either at your home or out and about, whichever you prefer.  – such as the park, the beach, or the woods – and I have photographed in a variety of locations. I recommend visiting places that have a resonance for you as a family, as this will produce pictures that will remind your children not of the day of the photo shoot, but of the day spent playing on the bandstand, or the beach you always went to, or their favorite climbing tree. The sessions are designed to capture your lives as you live them, so the choice of location is up to you – as long as there are no restrictions on photography, I'm happy to take pictures pretty much anywhere. Newborn sessions always take place in the family's home as I have found that both new mamas and new babies are feeling much more comfortable in their own environment.

What should we wear to our session?

It is best to stay with simple styles for a clean classic look or you can always choose to wear clothes that reflect your personality. I strongly recommend though to avoid logos, loud patterns and stripes as these don't work well in pictures, and try not to have half the family dressed in white and the other half in black as the contrast in the images can be distracting. If it is wet underfoot, please avoid dressing a toddler in white tights as the chances of falling over and muddy knees is high. If everyone is in a similar tonal range it will really enhance the look of your images. Feel free to bring one other outfit if you would like to change to a different look during your portrait session (clothing and styling is very important in these sessions to give the right feel to your images). Should anyone be wearing something that I don't think will work well in the pictures, then I'll mention it to you before we start so there is an opportunity for a quick change.

What happens if it rains?

If it is pouring with rain on the day of your shoot, then don't worry - we shall still capture a fabulous set of pictures, and often the added challenge of thinking outside the box results in some of my very best work.

We don't live in The Netherlands, do you mind traveling?

Absolutely! I love to travel and I shoot a number of clients in various cities and countries. Italy, Russia and Spain are some of the destinations that I visit regularly every other year and usually schedule sessions during that time. I'd love to hear from you, get in touch with me to know my travel rates.
